Profile:

WAS Shooting Guard: 6’4, 205 lbs; 8th year, LSU

NBA Role: heat-check two-guard • WAS Depth Chart: Spot Minutes

The undersized, instant-O two spot is slowly (but surely) becoming a bit obsolete – with teams looking for more skilled guys capable of making plays, there isn’t much of a need for ‘make or miss’ twos…so enjoy Marcus Thornton while you still can!; an authentic, journeyman chucker (in the most generous sense), Thornton does one thing pretty well: make tough shots; not the most efficient or effective guard (career 43% is actually not bad come to think of it) but can put up points without a moment’s notice – the type of player to go scoreless by halftime, then drop 25 in the final 24; makes difficult shots because he takes difficult shots – shot selection is one of Thornton’s greatest drawbacks but there’s no questioning what he’s out there for*; bigger role at some point? – WAS could use Thornton’s shooting in the 2nd unit

*the answer is ‘buckets’ – in case you couldn’t figure it out!
