GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS def. ORLANDO MAGIC – Final Score: 119-113

Stats Leaders:

PTS:  Stephen Curry – 41 | REBS: Aaron Gordon – 16 | ASTS: Draymond Green – 10

Rundown:

Heeeeeeere’s your winner and NEW record holder for consecutive home victories: um, the Warriors.

It sure wasn’t easy but by the final horn, Stephen Curry and the Dubs (56-6) captured their 45th straight Dub at Oracle Arena, breaking Chicago‘s long-standing record. After falling to the LA Lakers in a matinee yesterday, Golden State was firing on all cylinders early on in this one – they raced out to an early double-digit lead after the first and knocked down shot after shot after shot.

But the scrappy Orlando Magic (27-35), led by recent acquisition Brandon Jennings (20 points), capitalized on Golden State’s reckless passing and ball-handling to stay in the game.

A whopping 24 turnovers were committed by GSW; Orlando was able to make a late charge by converting in transition with Jennings, Victor Oladipo (19 points), Evan Fournier (20 points), and Bay Area native Aaron Gordon (20 points, 16 boards).

Steph was up to his usual tricks, scoring 41 points (NBA-high 12th 40+ performance), converting ridiculous trey balls and tallying his 300th bomb of the season, an NBA-record. But it was Thompson who cashed a bailout triple deep in the corner to seal both the game and etch the Dubs in the history books.

It was a valiant fight from Orlando, who played without Nikola Vucevic (groin) and trailed by 17 points to start the fourth quarter. The playoff race is heating up in the East, however, so there’s not much room for error from here on out.

Star UnderDOG of the Night: Brandon Rush (11 points, 3 triples)

Top DOG of the Night: Stephen Curry (41 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists)

Takeaway:

GSW: Golden State escaped with the W but really needs to re-focus and take care of the rock. Also, if someone is able to locate Harrison Barnes (8 points, 2-8 shooting), that’d be nice.

ORL: Aaron Gordon is really thriving in the starting lineup as a do-it-all four man. His shot still needs work but his production could make things interesting down the stretch as Orlando throws all hands on deck to climb back into the postseason picture (5 GB of 8th).
