In a complete shocker, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly parted ways with head coach David Blatt, effective immediately. Though Cleveland currently sits atop the Eastern Conference at 30-11 and made a trip to the NBA Finals last season, a major shakeup was needed…apparently.
Uninspired efforts against two of the league’s elite teams (0-3 v. SA & GS) may have played a role but you have to wonder if the front office simply felt he wasn’t the right man to lead the franchise to its first championship.
His replacement, Tyronn Lue, is considered more of a “players coach” and has a great relationship with LeBron James, among others.
According to reports, Lue has already agreed to a multi-year deal, so his future in Cleveland is already secured.
This major change could either be the turning point of Cleveland’s season or the first in a series of transactions to improve heading into the playoffs.
Despite going 83-40 over a season and a half, David Blatt is the biggest domino to fall in 2016.
