Frank Kaminsky (Senior, Wisconsin, @FSKPart3)

Power Forward-Center/7’0/240/Age: 21

Product of…Benet Academy (Lisle, IL)

Quick Stats

18.7 points/game, 8 rebounds/game, 2.7 assists/game

Frank Kaminsky’s stock is at an all-time high, a rarity for a senior in today’s landscape of college athletics. Thought as a late first-rounder in 2014, he is slotted as a potential lottery pick following an All-American season and second consecutive Final Four appearance. Not many bigs have his impressive combination of size and polished skill, especially in this year’s crop.

Kaminsky will be able to step in and contribute to a near-playoff team (if he is selected late tottery as we predict) with the chance to become a huge difference maker come midseason. Think former Gonzaga standout and current Boston Celtics center, Kelly Olynyk, when drawing a comparison for Frank.

Strengths:

-Cerebral player; rarely forces the issue, has a knack for making the correct plays

-Very nice shooting touch for a 7-footer, with range out to the three-point line

-Good positional rebounder; uses size to his advantage

Weaknesses:

-Back to the basket game is not fully developed; highly prefers to play on the perimeter

-A “system” player: could get lost in the shuffle if not in the right situation

-Who does he guard?; needs to beef up to defend opposing centers and lacks elite athleticism and lateral quickness to guard stretch fours

D.O.G. Status: Versatility is a valued trait amongst big men in the NBA. Luckily, Kaminsky is as multi-faceted as they come: he can shoot, pass, and is comfortable playing both inside and out. “Frank the Tank” probably won’t be a franchise center but he has great potential as a high-level “third” big on a contender.
