Thabo Sefolosha (ATL) – “Swiss Knife”
Profile:
Shooting Guard/Small Forward: 6’7, 222 lbs; 12th year, Switzerland
NBA Role: perimeter defender
A veteran swingman hailing from Switzerland, Thabo Sefolosha is a pest – made a name for himself as a lockdown perimeter defender who forces stars into rough shooting nights; prepared for any role: Coach Bud summons Thabo to disrupt things on D; not a scorer, or particularly skilled playmaker for that matter, but Thabo is adaptable (crisp carom-snatcher: avg. 4.5 boards in ’15-’16, which isn’t bad for a guy who plays less than 25 minutes/night), doesn’t try to do too much and improves a lineup’s defensive efficiency; cuts very well – opens himself up for easy opportunities if the D converges on the elbow; had an unforgettable, ‘squared up, side-backboard’ moment in the 2012 NBA Finals*; not many teams have defensive stoppers in their back pocket – Thabo doesn’t need to play a ton of minutes but when the game’s tight, Coach Bud calls on him to (help) deliver clutch stops
*someone please find this – 4th quarter of like Game 2 (OKC was home), can’t miss it
